Find fuel for the ferry winch
A swamp is a vast and dangerous area, so it's best to learn a few facts about it before you start looking for fuel. First of all, avoid water. Otherwise, Artyom will start to sink and take damage, or (if he has already been injured) will die. Triplets are a similar type of trap. Try to get around them, jump over them, or disarm them.
Another very important problem with swamps is that they are inhabited by monsters. Definitely, the type of monster you'll see most often is the shrimp, which comes in two sizes here. I recommend against destroying all shrimps at all costs, otherwise you simply won't have enough resources to secure this area. Monsters are best destroyed with a shotgun or a double-barrelled shotgun, shooting them when they are exposed rather than when they are hiding in their armor. As in the case of the ferry cross, incendiary and fragmentation grenades are a good advantage.
Crossing the swamps, you will also encounter at least two demons. Also here you need to decide whether you want to try to kill the monsters (it is recommended to use a good type of weapon here) or just avoid them. If you choose the latter, don't forget not to stay outdoors for too long. Otherwise, you may be captured by a demon and suffer heavy damage as a result.
Since this area is really vast, you don't need to explore the entire area to move the plot forward. Of course, I recommend exploring the area in more detail to find, among other things, an abandoned camp, secret hiding places and corpses that you can search for (to find supplies, new types of weapons - among others, a sniper rifle in a booth in the camp and an assault rifle in the overgrown ruins). Be aware, however, of the frequent shrimp attacks, as well as the time limit (gas mask). Try not to lead to a situation where you are almost completely out of supplies when you are surrounded by monsters.
Your current destination is an airplane crash. It is located to the right of the starting point, quite far from the ladder that you took to get to the surface. To find out how to drive, you can use the compass attached to Artyom's diary.
Enter a plane crash and explore it thoroughly to find supplies (among other things, Claymore mines, which will come in handy in the next chapter). The last thing to do is check the gas cans and find out that they are empty. Use slin-go&melbet to read basic tips for safe betting and budgeting.
